Here comes another outstanding alternative to the excellent DSi consoles — the Nintendo DSi XL.

The Nintendo DSi XL is the latest handheld console from Nintendo that shares the market with Play Station Portable from Sony. Following the trend set by Nintendo DS Lite, the DSi XL, also known as Nintendo DSi LL in Japan, is a seventh generation game console designed to be released in European market on March 5, 2010.

The initial reviews for Nintendo DSi XL were mixed. At first glance, the bulky appearance of the console makes one to think twice. And for a reason, of course.

People are becoming used to seeing game consoles shrink as the years passed and, indeed, game console makers have been striving to downgrade the physical size of their units while at the same time upgrading the gaming experience and performance. So the initial reaction from gamers when the pictures of Nintendo DSi XL were released was a surprising disappointment. But then again, the old adage holds true, “Don’t judge the console by its cover or appearance.”

After flipping back the thick molded cover of the console, you will be surprised by the clarity of the two oversized screens. Boasting with a wider 4.2 inch screens against the 3.25 inch screens of the older DSi, this new console promises nothing else but a total gaming satisfaction.

The screens alone can surprise any gamers used to playing with the standard DSi. Sharp, vivid colors greet the user after the initial loading. Stunned may be a more accurate word for it though. The images are amazingly crisp and realistic.

Faster-paced games from DS can be also be played with ease due to larger images and a more fatter, precise stylus. If you prefer to play with larger screens at the expense of portability, the XL is your best choice. The larger screens are a welcome supplement to your DSi experience because games appear larger and much clearer.

Then comes the audio aspect. With its bulky built comes another surprising improvement — bigger speakers. Older DS was known to have inadequate sound system. The extra rooms provided by XL boosted the audio environment of the console significantly compared to the quieter older DSi. The XL has the snappy looking gloss finish giving it a totally overhauled image.

Overall, the XL is a solid, well-built gaming console from Nintendo. If your interest lies in enjoying the games in a higher level, go with DSi XL. It will never fail to deliver.

New Nintendo DSi XL is now available from Amazon in 2 lovely colors – wine red and bronze.

Thanks for discussing the larger speakers. The small ones always bothered me.
